Home Design with Martha & Ash

When we were in the beginning stages of building our dream home three years ago, I knew I wanted big windows in every room. I love natural light and living in the hills, wanted to make the most of the views. What I didn’t take into account was the practicality of living in a fishbowl.

We now had an obscene amount of windows to find treatments for, lest the entire neighborhood see us naked. I was also waking up at the ripe hour of 5:30am as soon as the first sliver of light started to shine in. When your kid sleeps until 7, this is less than ideal. I needed curtains for our bedroom and Georgia’s, stat.

The before…

Full disclosure, interior design is not my forte. I felt completely out of my element and like I was going to screw up this job with my frustration to just buy and tack up the first thing I saw. I started trolling Instagram and Pinterest, desperate for ideas, and found this amazing company, Martha & Ash and we started a dialogue.

Y’all know I love small shops and this experience was the epitome of that experience- personal, fun and easy. I love being able to pick up the phone and literally talk to the person who owns the company, or have an idea and email them and get a real response back! Imagine that!!  Ashley and I started emailing and I sent pictures of the rooms,
dimensions and some initial ideas and she swooped in with options, mailing me fabric samples.

For the master, we ended up picking linen drapes in color “Oyster” with a black out lining and she added an interlining, like a flannel, that goes between the blackout and the linen, adding extra insulation and a thicker feel. They are absolutely beautiful and have weight to them, giving them a luxe feel for the master bedroom without being overtly heavy. I feel like it was the perfect fit for this room. Plus they shipped everything straight to me!

The after!

The rod is made of iron – they do all orders custom made to fit the space perfectly – and is great quality. Opening and closing is seamless and easy, even though the drapes are quite large.

For Georgia’s room, I wanted to find a patterned fabric. I ended up finding this fabric at Calico Corners by Project Phoenix (style: Malone in Blush). They shipped it right to Martha & Ash who fashioned me the most beautiful roman shades. They again are blackout lined, which comes standard, and also interlined to give them some structure. It was no problem at all for them to work with my own fabric and they turned out so great.

The before and after… I adore this room!

I’m totally obsessed with these window treatments and had the most wonderful experience tying this all together before Baby #2 makes his appearance! Check out Martha & Ash on Instagram for more design inspo! @marthaandash

I think they killed it! What do you think??
